500 Word Analysis of My Roles Of Production

Pre-Production - During the initial ideas process I used questionnaires to get an insight into what my target audience were looking for. For example the issues that they wanted to see faced in my Children’s TV Drama. I decided to produce a live action drama that focused on one or two main characters as the results from my questionnaire showed me that this was the most favoured by my target audience, research I used Broadcasters' Audience Research Board (BARB) to back up my research from my questionnaire, this showed me that live action dramas reach top position in the ratings. When deciding the style of my characters I had to consider which style would receive the most response from my audience. I chose not to incorporate stereotypes of young people into my characters but instead I chose to focus on outcasts and those who reject traditional norms and value of society, although this can be argued to be a stereotype of some young people in society.

Production- During the production I had to alter some of my shots as the desired location that I had chosen to use was unavailable to overcome this issue I used one of my previous location as this was still in keeping with the theme of my title sequence, I had to use my initiative at several points during filming as there were some shots that I had planned which weren’t working at the particular moment in time due to many factors for example one of my key actors was absent so I had to rework the scene to ensure it made sense and remained in keeping with my narrative. In hindsight by changing this scene I feel I improved my work.

Post-Production- When editing my title sequence as I wasn’t using sync sound I didn’t have to match the audio (from dialogue) to my video, I did however have to ensure that the particular song I’d chosen as my theme tune ( Chasing Ghosts) would fit in with idea that I had devised for my title sequence. I had to ensure the theme stopped at an appropriate section however this helped me to prevent the length of my title sequence over running my 3 minute limit.

Evaluation- Overall I believe I carried out the roles of production successfully and I was able to make executive decisions and use my initiative to produce a successful project. If I had to improve anything I would change my theme song to something more upbeat as I feel it would appeal more to my target audience, I would also make a possible three final cuts and show them to my target audience to be able to gain an understanding of which would receive the most positive response
I feel this was a successful project as I used the opinions and thoughts of my target audience and peers to be able to fully understand what would work and have the largest response from a wide range of audiences.
